The severe plate and structural damage that was visible on the front of the aircraft during the recovery must have been caused by the aircraft flipping around in the water.

That is the accident commission's assessment.

The purpose of the flight was to train a young pilot to land and take off on water.

The young man already had a pilot's license but wanted to build on that training with an authorization for naval aviation.

No black box – but interesting data is available

There is no black box on this type of smaller aircraft, but from other instruments on board, the accident commission has been able to obtain data indicating that the aircraft descended towards the water very slowly, just as it should when landing on water.

The accident commission has not yet fully analyzed what went wrong.

The final report from the investigation is expected to be ready this summer.
