The police headquarters announced that the driver suspected of a hit and run in Vanves (Hauts-de-Seine) on January 3 had been arrested and placed in detention.
The man is believed to have been driving the van that hit an 83-year-old man on a pedestrian crossing.
The collision took place in the evening, in front of several witnesses.
The driver had stopped his utility vehicle just after the impact, before finally leaving the scene, says Actu Hauts-de-Seine.
A call for witnesses launched on January 20
The victim was taken care of by paramedics and evacuated to a hospital.
His condition was then considered an absolute emergency.
The doctors placed the octogenarian in an artificial coma.
He was diagnosed with head trauma and numerous fractures.
An investigation had been opened and the driver was actively sought by the Vanves police.
The police had notably launched a call for witnesses on January 20 to find the driver.
The latter gave in particular a description of the vehicle, a white utility vehicle with a tailgate.
