Yesterday, a Palestinian official announced the start of US talks with the Palestinian-Israeli sides to stop the state of deterioration and return to calm in the Palestinian territories, while the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stressed the need to revive the Palestinian-Israeli peace process, calling on the international community to stop the "Israeli aggressions". The executive of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Ahmed Majdalani, told the official Palestinian radio that the American talks aim to “stop the state of deterioration and return to a tangible calm within a specific time frame, and then the situation will be evaluated to work on opening a political horizon to end the Israeli occupation.”
He explained that American security and political teams began, yesterday, to conduct the necessary discussions with the two sides to determine "the core issues related to the unilateral Israeli measures, whether on the political level or the daily living conditions."
He stated that among the American discussions was the issue of Israeli deductions from Palestinian tax funds, stopping the Israeli army's incursions into Palestinian cities and villages, and the seriousness of settlement activities.
Majdalani stressed that the Palestinian decisions, including stopping security coordination with Israel, "are still valid and valid unless a satisfactory agreement is reached with specific guarantees that pave the way for opening the bilateral political horizon."
And he highlighted that the recent field developments in the Palestinian territories "threatened to bring matters to the brink of collapse as a result of the current Israeli government policy," noting that the US administration "was surprised by the extent of the tension that occurred, and began movement at the highest political and security level, based on the seriousness of the situation."
However, the Palestinian official warned that while Washington affirms adherence to the two-state solution, it does not provide sufficient guarantees to stop the unilateral Israeli steps that would harm the two-state solution and prejudice the issues of the final status.
On the other hand, the Saudi Minister of Information stated, after the weekly session held by the Saudi Council of Ministers on Tuesday night, headed by King Salman bin Abdulaziz, that “the Cabinet dealt with a number of reports on developments in the region and the world, especially developments in the situation in Palestine,” stressing "The necessity of reviving the peace process, and calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities to end the occupation, stop the Israeli attacks, and provide the necessary protection for civilians."
