Civil society actors from South Kivu demonstrated on Wednesday (February 1st) in Bukavu against the presence of the regional force of the East African Community (EAC).

They believe that this force has so far failed to fulfill its mission: to restore security in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Placards and banners with messages calling for peace, these inhabitants of South Kivu came to express their anger at the Place de l'Indépendance in Bukavu.

Constant Koko Mudekereza, in his fifties, expresses his desolation: " 

We believe that the East African Community behaves like an M23 bis because where the M23 is hunted, the Community of East African States comes to protect this sector and prevent our armed forces from entering

Other protesters held up photos of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

One of them, Bamba Jah Galy: " 

I have noticed that those who are waging war on us are certain members of the United Nations Security Council, in this case France, England, and the United States .

Therefore, we would have to change partners because we have found that they are hypocrites.

We should currently maintain good relations with Russia, which has never participated in the looting.

Also, the demonstrators accuse the UN mission in the DRC Monusco of " 

inaction

", they called on the UN secretary general to review the objective of these soldiers, and to sanction Rwanda for its support for the rebellion. of M23.

Civil society in South Kivu promises to intensify protests until these demands are met.
