The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Northern Europe and Finland, Harvisto, expressed his intention to realize the joining of NATO = North Atlantic Treaty Organization together with neighboring Sweden, which is applying together.

This is due to Turkey's reluctance to join Sweden.

Finland and Sweden applied for NATO membership in May last year after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, a move that requires the approval of all 30 member states.

Among them, Turkey is reluctant to join Sweden after a representative of a far-right group set fire to the Koran, the holy book of Islam, in front of the Turkish embassy in Sweden.

Erdogan has also hinted at the possibility of only accepting Finland's membership.

Against this backdrop, Finland's Foreign Minister Haavist said at a press conference on the 30th, "I clearly conveyed to future NATO allies, including Turkey, that the security of Finland and Sweden is one." He expressed his intention to have both countries join the EU by May.

However, Turkish President Erdogan is expected to continue to take a tough stance against Sweden in order to gain domestic support ahead of the presidential elections expected to be held in May, and the two Nordic countries are expected to join NATO. No prospects.
