China News Service, January 31 (Xinhua) Comprehensive foreign media reports, a local official said on the 31st that suicide bombings at mosques in Pakistan have killed 93 people.

It was one of the worst attacks the country has suffered in recent years.

A spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban denied responsibility.

The explosion occurred in a mosque in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar on the afternoon of the 30th local time.

According to local officials in Peshawar, another 177 people were injured, 57 of whom were still receiving treatment in hospital. Most of the injured were police officers.

Officials said the bomber was standing in the front row of the mosque's crowded crowd and detonated his bomb vest during afternoon prayers, causing the roof to collapse and killing hundreds.

According to the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) report, the commander of the Pakistani Taliban, Sabakaf Mohmand, had previously claimed responsibility for the attack on Twitter.

Mohammad Qurasani, a spokesman for the group, later denied involvement in the attack, but he did not respond to why its commander had earlier claimed responsibility.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported that on the afternoon of the 31st, rescuers were still searching for victims buried under the rubble.

A spokesman told the BBC the rescue operation would continue for another three hours.

It is reported that the mosque is located in the compound of the Peshawar Police Headquarters and the Anti-Terrorism Department. It is not clear how the attackers carried the bomb through the heavily guarded security area.

But officials have confirmed that the bomber was not a member of the police force.
