“The US Embassy warns citizens about possible terrorist retaliatory attacks, the targets may be churches, synagogues, diplomatic missions in Istanbul or other places popular among foreigners, especially the Istanbul districts of Beyoglu, Galata, Taksim, Istiklal Street,” RIA Novosti quotes a statement from the diplomatic mission.

It is noted that terrorist attacks are possible against the backdrop of the burning of copies of the Koran in Europe by the far right.

At the same time, the Americans add that the Turkish authorities are dealing with this problem.

On January 21, Rasmus Paludan, leader of the far-right Hard Deal party, burned a Koran outside the Turkish embassy in Stockholm.

Previously, he received permission from the authorities to hold the action.

On January 22, protesters in Turkey burned the flag of Sweden at the country's Consulate General in Istanbul in response to a provocation with the Koran in Stockholm.

Subsequently, Paludan threatened Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan with new actions until Sweden joins NATO.
