In the fall of 2022, the individual and family care in Skellefteå raised the alarm about the increasing number of reports of concern received by the social service.

Now it turns out that the year would be a record year regarding reports of concern and children who were placed in HVB homes.

The increasing number of cases, many of which have been difficult cases involving children who are harmed, has contributed to an extremely high workload for the staff.

The Social Welfare Board has therefore decided to give individual and family care more money - more specifically SEK 6.6 million.

- The money will be used, among other things, to employ more social secretaries, says Iosif Karambotis (S), chairman of the social committee.

Focuses on preventive work

Social services will also, among other things, invest in a new form of collaboration: Health, learning and safety, HLT.

There, they will work together with the school and the region in teams, and handle cases where it is felt that early support is needed.

The hope is that the efforts will ensure that children receive help in time.

- All early and preventive health promotion efforts are extremely positive for children's health and development, and hopefully this will reduce the burden on specialist care, BUP, says Linda Larsson.
