The court of Versailles (Yvelines) sentenced, on Thursday, a young man to one year in prison, including six months suspended.

The 27-year-old defendant was found guilty of "false quality theft".

He pretended to be an agent of Enedis with the elderly, says

.

The individual called his victims to arrange a meeting, went to their home and diverted their attention before seizing their property.

To do this, the criminal entrusted an instrument to his target, claimed to have to go around the sockets of the accommodation and pocketed precious objects in the process.

An investigation had been opened after the complaint of a victim of theft in Mézières-sur-Seine (Yvelines), on January 17.

The investigations made it possible to identify a suspect living in Paris.

Watched, the young man was arrested in flagrante delicto in a dwelling in Gagny (Seine-Saint-Denis) where he was about to commit a new crime.

He was taken into custody and found guilty after initially denying any theft.

The firm part of his prison sentence may be adjusted.
