The owner of a 9 m2 room was sentenced this Friday by the court of Créteil (Val-de-Marne) to 30 months in prison, six of which are closed.

He had rented his property, located in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés (Val-de-Marne), to a family of seven people, including two minors.

A warrant of deposit was issued at the end of the hearing, reports Actu Val-de-Marne.

The 43-year-old man was convicted of “subjecting several vulnerable people to unworthy accommodation conditions” and “maneuvering, threatening, assaulting or coercing a person to leave their place of residence”.

He will have to pay a fine of 30,000 euros and has been banned from buying a home for ten years.

His property was seized.

The forties had been taken into custody after having evicted the occupants of the dwelling.

In the coldest of winter, the landlord had taken out the tenants' personal belongings.

The premises, consisting of a single room with a particularly low ceiling, were rented between 500 and 700 euros per month.

It was classified as unsanitary and uninhabitable.

Several family members had to sleep in the common areas of the building.
