The recipe in question is to offer a sedan with an original look, with a plunging rear, and which adopts certain SUV codes, such as the slightly raised posture.

To make the C4 X, Citroën started from a C4, grafted a separate boot to it and of course modified the roofline accordingly.

But beware of the optical illusion: the wheelbase has remained the same.

Which means that the lengthening only benefits the trunk, not the back seat.

Specific markets

Why offer this version?

Because Citroën wants to strengthen its position in certain markets, which are still fans of cars with trunks that are truly separate from the passenger compartment.

The manufacturer cites Turkey and certain Mediterranean countries in particular.

This is confirmed when you discover the base price: some €27,000 for a 100 hp petrol version.

This is very comparable to the price of a Fiat Tipo, another car whose main market is Turkey.

Does the C4 X therefore have the same perfume of good plan as the Fiat?

Yes… but not for everyone.

Because in Germany or Belgium among others, it will only be sold in the electric version (136 hp, 50 kWh battery promising 360 km WLTP), from 38,122 €.

Why this strategic choice, while France, fortunately, is entitled to gasoline and diesel versions?

The laws of marketing are impenetrable.

Weird…

We don't hide it, we absolutely love all current Citroëns, for several reasons.

We like the aesthetic originality (that's obviously very personal), the fact that each model offers comfort well above the average in its respective category, and that the brand's cars are honest: what they promise, they deliver.

Which means, among other things, that the bias towards comfort gives cars that are not at all dynamic, but in any case still competent, even if you drive more committed.

And strangely, we did not find some of these things in the ë-C4 X. First thing: we did not find the soft welcome of the seats, which are nevertheless one of the assets of the C3, the C5 Aircross , the C5 X, etc.

Next, we have reservations about honesty.

Because one of the obvious promises of the car is to have a safe space.

510 liters according to the technical sheet, it is indeed generous for a compact.

Yes, but… the large lid hinges encroach copiously on this volume.

If we're not careful, we'll load the safe fully, then when it's time to close…well, it won't close.

Fortunately, one thing is indisputable: the damping comfort is totally and worthily Citroën.

The ë-C4 X therefore has this for it, a rather successful silhouette (as long as you are sensitive to the design of the brand), and pleasant mechanics.

But deep down, we are left with the feeling that the engineers had to make some sacrifices to offer a competitive car… in markets other than ours.
