A 6.1-magnitude earthquake hits Xinjiang, northwest China

 An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale rocked Xia County, Aksu Prefecture, in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or material losses.

According to China's new news agency "Xinhua", the quake occurred at 7:49 a.m. Monday Beijing time (11:49 p.m. Sunday GMT), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The center said that the earthquake was monitored at 40.01 degrees north latitude and 82.29 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 50 km.
