The Pope of the Vatican, Pope Francis, called on Israel and the Palestinians to stop what he described as a “vortex of death” and to engage in dialogue in pursuit of peace, and denounced the violence in the region.
The Pope said in statements yesterday that he was deeply saddened by the killing of Palestinians during Israeli operations, and the killing of Jews in a shooting at a synagogue on the outskirts of Jerusalem.

He added, "I appeal to the two governments and the international community, and ask them to find other ways that include dialogue and the sincere search for peace immediately and without wasting any time."
