Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid attacked the extremist Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, and held him responsible for the shooting attack in Jerusalem that took place on Friday, killing 7 settlers and wounding 10 others.

Lapid's remarks came in an interview with Yedioth Ahronoth radio station, commenting on Ben Gvir's accusation, the government's judicial advisor, Ghali Behrav Mayara, of delaying approval of the closure of the house of martyr Khairi Alqam, in preparation for its demolition.

Lapid said that Ben Gvir's specialty is "looking for the guilty, far from himself," and addressed him by saying, "You are responsible. Take responsibility instead of searching all day for someone to blame."

And he continued, "This man does not know how to do anything. He lives in the TikTok application and is looking for someone to blame him," noting that members of the current government "blame the leftists and the judiciary, and do everything except do their job."

Ben Gvir responds

Minutes later, Ben Gvir responded on the same radio to Lapid, saying, "It is amazing that he accuses me of being responsible for the attack after 3 weeks in my position."

Ben Gvir accused the previous government, which was headed by Naftali Bennett for a year and a half, and said that it left a black hole in the Ministry of National Security, destroyed the personal security of Israelis and caused the escalation of terrorism.

At dawn on Sunday, Israeli police forces closed the house of Khairy Alqam (21 years old) in the Al-Tur neighborhood of East Jerusalem, and blocked all its entrances as part of the intensification of the policy of collective punishment pursued by the new Israeli government against the Palestinians.

The Palestinian territories are witnessing escalating tension, which intensified in recent days with the killing of 9 Palestinians by Israeli army bullets Thursday in a camp in the northern West Bank, while the Palestinians responded with two shootings in Jerusalem, killing 7 Israelis and wounding 12.
