Today, Sunday, the Israeli occupation authorities announced the closure of the house of the martyr Khairy Alqam, the perpetrator of the Jerusalem operation that resulted in the death of 7 settlers and the injury of others, in the first measure of a series of punitive decisions taken by the Israeli government against the Palestinians after the two Jerusalem attacks.

The Israeli radio said that the army closed and isolated the house of the martyr Alqam, while Israeli media circulated pictures of army personnel using welding tools to close the house.

The decision comes a few hours after the decision of the Israeli cabinet, which authorized the closing of the martyr's house as soon as possible, in preparation for its demolition.

The cabinet took a series of punitive decisions in response to the two Jerusalem operations, which included closing the house of the perpetrator of the Jerusalem operation, depriving the families of the perpetrators of the right to national insurance and other benefits, as well as refusing to grant identity cards for Jerusalem residents to the families of the perpetrators.

Weapons license

The Security Council also decided to accelerate and expand the granting of firearms licenses to Israelis, strengthen security measures in settlements, and strengthen police and army forces to launch security operations and campaigns to collect what it described as illegal weapons.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had vowed what he called a strong response to the two operations in occupied Jerusalem, and "strong" measures, including the immediate demolition of the homes of the perpetrators of the attacks.

The shootings in Jerusalem presented a challenge to Netanyahu, who returned to power last December at the head of a far-right nationalist government, vowing to boost the personal safety of Israelis after a series of terror attacks by Palestinians last year.

Assessment of the security situation

On the other hand, the Occupation Army Radio said that Defense Minister Yoav Gallant will conduct an assessment of the situation with the participation of the Chiefs of Staff and the Shin Bet.

For his part, the Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, said that he had asked the government's legal advisor, Berhav Mayara, to close the homes of the perpetrators of the attacks in Jerusalem.

Bin Gvir also called for the establishment of a force he called the "National Guard", and equipping it to be a large preventive and offensive force, as he put it.

As for Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, he called for besieging the neighborhoods in which the families of the perpetrators of the attacks live.

In turn, the occupation army announced that it had decided to close the settlements surrounding Jerusalem to Palestinian labor.

A martyr in Qalqilya

Meanwhile, an Israeli security patrol shot and killed a Palestinian citizen near the Kedumim settlement, east of Qalqilya, claiming he was trying to carry out a shooting attack in the settlement.

Today, Sunday, the Palestinian authorities announced the death of the Palestinian youth, Karam Ali Salman, 18, from the village of Qusin in Nablus, by Israeli bullets in the northern West Bank.

In field developments, the Israeli occupation forces arrested, as of Saturday morning, about 50 citizens from occupied Jerusalem.

The Commission for Palestinian Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs said - in a statement - that its legal staff in Jerusalem is working within an intensive state of emergency, to follow up on the escalating arrests that are carried out in a random manner, and it has exceeded 50 arrest cases in Jerusalem alone.

Breaking into prisons

In the same context, the Commission for Palestinian Detainees and Ex-Prisoners' Affairs condemned the Israeli forces' storming of Palestinian prisoners' quarters inside its prisons, and their "abuse" and isolation.

The commission confirmed - in a press statement on its Facebook account - that the prison administration "has stormed the sections of the Palestinian prisoners inside its prisons, abused them, isolated them, and transferred dozens from one prison to another, in a scheme aimed at harassing them."

The Palestinian Prisoners Club said - in a statement - that "the oppressive forces of the Israeli prison administration stormed several sections of the prisons of Palestinian prisoners, abused them, and transferred a number of them to other prisons and sections."

Visit Blinken

Politically, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken begins a tour - today, Sunday - that includes Egypt, Israel and the West Bank, while CIA Director William Burns continues his talks to stop the escalation between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

According to the German news agency, the "vortex of violence" taking place in the West Bank and Jerusalem overshadowed any plans of the US Secretary of State to focus on democracy.

Occupied Jerusalem witnessed two operations that resulted in the death of 7 Israelis and the injury of several others, following a massacre carried out by the Israeli occupation forces in the Jenin camp, which resulted in the death of 9 Palestinians and the wounding of 20 others.
