On Sunday, Pakistan witnessed two tragic accidents hours apart in the west of the country, where at least 41 people were killed when a bus fell off a bridge and 10 children were killed when a boat sank.

The rescue operation is still underway Sunday in Tanda Dam Lake located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, northwest Pakistan, after a boat carrying between 25 and 30 students who were on a school trip sank, police officer Mir Rauf told AFP.

The officer added that ten children between the ages of 7 and 14 were found dead and 11 others were rescued, six of whom are in serious condition, adding that up to nine others are still missing.

Earlier, at least 41 people were killed in a bus accident that exploded after it fell off a bridge in the north of the city of Pella, located in Balochistan province (southwest).

"The bodies ... cannot be identified," said Hamza Anjum, an official in the Lasbela district, where the accident took place.

He added that three survivors were rescued, but one of them later succumbed to his injuries and the others were in critical condition.

The bus was carrying 48 people when it hit a pole before falling off the bridge it was crossing.

The bus set off from the capital of Balochistan, Quetta, at night towards the port city of Karachi, about 700 kilometers to the south.

"We fear the driver may have fallen asleep," said Anjum, adding that speeding may also be the cause of the tragedy.

An investigation will be opened to determine the circumstances of the accident and DNA tests will be carried out to identify the "severely mutilated" victims, according to the official.
