A road drama mourned Peru on Saturday.

At least 24 people, including Haitians, died when their bus fell off a cliff for an unknown reason in the Piura region, north of Lima, according to police who initially spoke of 25 deaths.

Several people were also injured and transported to hospitals in the region, in El Alto and Mancora, said the police without being able to give their number.

The bus was carrying 60 passengers.

Victims trapped inside the vehicle

During the accident, several passengers were ejected from the windows and others were trapped inside the vehicle.

The Q'orianka Tours bus had left Lima and was heading for Tumbes on the border with Ecuador.

In an uninhabited area near the town of Organos, he veered off the road with about 260 kilometers to go to reach his destination.
