"The city and the port are in mourning", saddens Yannick Moreau, the mayor of Sables d'Olonne (Vendée).

A Sablais fisherman was killed on Friday after the sinking of his ship in the Atlantic.

The

Rumalo II

turned around around 10:30 a.m. west of the island of Ré (Charente-Maritime), reports the maritime prefecture of the Atlantic.

Three sailors were on board.

Two were able to quickly get out of the boat and be recovered from the water by a fishing vessel that came to the rescue.

The third man was not found until around 1:46 p.m. by another fishing boat participating in the search.

He could not be revived despite the arrival of a medical team.

sank shortly before noon.

Large resources were deployed on site, including two SNSM patrol boats, a police boat and two helicopters.

The reasons for the sinking are unclear at this stage.

The wind was force 5 at the time of the tragedy.
