Homelessness has decreased several surveys in a row - but last year there was a break in the trend and the homeless are now more than ever.

- The housing market is strained and there are more and more vulnerable people in society, says Linda Larsson, head of department Individual and family care, says Linda Larsson.

Skellefteå's population is increasing with the large industrial investments.

For people with, for example, mental health or addiction problems, it has become increasingly difficult to get their own home.

Want help from politics

The type of homelessness that clearly increases the most are people who are stuck in second-hand contracts that they can't get out of.

- The demands are getting higher and the social welfare board is becoming like its own landlord, says Linda Larsson.

The Social Committee is now requesting that the municipal council tackle the issue of increasing homelessness.

- Now it is important to raise this issue politically, because the social committee does not rule over the housing policy issues in Skellefteå.

For the acutely homeless, Skellefteå municipality has sought SEK 1.5 million from the government to test the "Housing first" model.
