For Washington, it is a question

of “countering the Wagner group and its participation in the Russian war in Ukraine

”.

The American administration does not want to limit itself only to the people involved on the Ukrainian ground, but also targets Russian interests elsewhere, such as in the Central African Republic where Wagner is very active.

"

Anyone and any company linked to Wagner is an accomplice

," said the spokesman for the National Security Council of the White House.

Among the people targeted by the sanctions, we find V

alery Nikolayevich Zakharov

, an employee of Wagner, but who was above all a security adviser to President Touadera.

There is also the company Sewa Security.

Also in the sights of the Americans,

Alexandre Ivanov

, head of Cosi, the Community of Officers for International Security, the name given to the group of Russian officers present in the Central African Republic.

But who according to the United States serves as a front company for Wagner in the country.

Alexander Ivanov reacted immediately.

He considers that these sanctions are "

an admission of weakness from Washington

", and he affirms his determination to help the CAR.
