He has described himself as "an ardent supporter of the academic freedom of the universities".

“And what to do when this freedom violates the Constitution of Ukraine, namely, Article 10 and a dozen normative acts of international law, including EU laws, where we are so striving,” Arestovich wrote on Telegram.

Earlier, former Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Gennady Zubko said that the Kiev-Mohyla Academy, founded in 1615, was forbidden to speak Russian.

On January 16, Arestovich said that he communicates with his children in Russian.
