Two Israeli settlers were injured - one of them in a very serious condition - today, Saturday, as a result of gunfire in the Silwan neighborhood near the Old City of Jerusalem, in what the Israeli police said was a Palestinian attack.

The Israeli occupation police did not clarify the fate of the suspect, while Israeli media reported the arrest of the perpetrator of the Silwan operation, a 13-year-old boy, who used a gun in the attack.

For his part, a spokesman for the Israeli ambulance service, Magen David Adom, said, "A 23-year-old man is in serious condition, and a 47-year-old man is in moderate to serious condition, after they were wounded in the upper body as a result of gunshots."

The shooting came one day after 7 settlers were killed and 10 others were wounded in an operation carried out by the Palestinian youth, Khairy Alqam, near a synagogue on the outskirts of Jerusalem.

alert status

The Inspector General of the Israeli Police had announced that the state of alert was raised to the highest levels, while the occupation forces arrested 42 Palestinians after the shooting in front of the synagogue in occupied Jerusalem.

And according to the decision to raise the state of alert, the occupation police officers will work, starting today, Saturday, in 12-hour shifts instead of 8 hours, and the police also requested that any suspicious person or object be reported on its hotline.

On the other hand, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said that settlers complain about the lack of security in Jerusalem, despite the presence of police forces everywhere.

In a related context, the police announced in a statement the arrest of 42 Palestinians in the Al-Tur neighborhood of East Jerusalem, who are relatives and friends of the attacker, Khairy Alqam (21 years old).

The resistance praises the operation

For its part, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) considered that the heroic operations in Jerusalem and other areas translated the position of the resistance, and said that its response would not be delayed, and that "the enemy has begun to pay the price for its crimes in the first place."

In turn, the Islamic Jihad movement praised the operation, and said that "the two Jerusalem operations hit the Israeli security and military system."
