The Kremlin said on Friday that US President Joe Biden holds the key to ending the conflict in Ukraine by directing Kyiv, but Washington is not yet willing to use it.

"The key to the Kyiv system is largely in Washington's hands," Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian presidential residence, told reporters at a daily briefing.

"Now we see that the current leader of the White House ... does not want to use this key. On the contrary, he chooses the path of pumping more weapons into Ukraine," he added.

Moscow accuses Washington of giving orders to Ukraine and prolonging the conflict by supplying weapons to Kyiv, while the United States says Russia waged a brutal war by choice and could end it by withdrawing its forces.

Tensions between the two sides have reached unprecedented levels over the past year, and the United States announced this week that it will send 31 advanced M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, worth $400 million, within months.

Russia, in turn, says any Abrams tanks sent would be a waste of money because they would "burn out" like other tanks in Ukraine.
