If your roof is made of tile, with a gust of wind a hole can quickly occur.

And beware, you could be waiting a long time for a repair.

The tile market is experiencing a significant shortage, it is increasingly difficult to obtain large quantities to the chagrin of professionals in the sector who are struggling to meet demand.

A new shortage is taking hold in France: that of tiles.

For professionals in the construction sector, it is increasingly difficult to obtain large quantities.

Craftsmen find it difficult to order them to build or repair roofs, as explained by Olivier, a roofer in the Somme, who often leaves empty-handed when he calls his suppliers.

"They clearly tell us that we should receive them but we don't receive them, we receive them one month, two months later... We have to change our sites, manage."

A situation that lasts

Soaring gas prices, labor problems, the causes of this shortage can be numerous and the consequences dramatic for these professionals.

Olivier must, for example, refuse customers.

Frédéric Didier, president of the French Federation of Tiles and Bricks, notes that since the shutdown of factories during the health crisis, the market has never recovered.

"We made our employees safe during the Covid-19 period. There was a production stoppage, but at the end of this period, stocks were relatively low and demand very strong. We experienced dramatic episodes of hail in the Allier, in the South-West and a little in the East of France, which still generated very strong, occasional and local requests for roof tiles."

However, Frédéric Didier remains confident and hopes for a stabilization of the market by the end of 2023.
