It is likely that the Nordic arctic fox would have already become extinct if it were not for conservation efforts, according to Professor Anders Angerbjörn, who started the Swedish arctic fox project over 30 years ago.

- In 2000, there were around 50 adult mountain foxes in the Nordics in total.

Now we have increased it to around 500, and we can be proud of that, he says.

Angerbjörn had not expected that 2022 would be a record year for the arctic foxes, which are very dependent on their favorite food – lemmings.

- I didn't really think it was a proper lamb year, so I was a bit taken aback.

But it is very gratifying, he says.

In the video, Anders Angerbjörn talks about what can affect the size of the arctic fox tribe.
