The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called on the German authorities to clarify a number of statements by the German side regarding Berlin's participation in the events in Ukraine.

As the diplomat recalled, Russian Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock said at a PACE meeting in Strasbourg on January 24 that European countries were "waging war against Russia."

Subsequently, Zakharova noted, the German Foreign Ministry stated that "providing support to Kyiv does not make Germany a party to the conflict in Ukraine."

“Do they understand what they are talking about?

The German foreign minister says that her country, along with other countries, is at war with Russia.

The same ministry does not consider its country to be a party to the conflict, ”Zakharova wrote on Telegram.

The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that we are talking about “statements that contradict each other”, and called on the German authorities to clarify them.

Berlin decided to transfer tanks

Recall that on January 25, the German government announced its decision to transfer a batch of 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv. The German Cabinet allowed other states that have these vehicles to also transfer them to Ukraine.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the decision "corresponds to the established course to provide all possible support to Ukraine."

According to the statement of the German Cabinet of Ministers, in addition to training Ukrainian tank crews, Germany will provide Ukraine with logistics, ammunition supply and maintenance of the combat systems of the supplied vehicles.

Later, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius called the decision to transfer tanks to Kyiv historic, while noting that he sees no reason to rejoice in this event.

Meanwhile, the German parliament criticized Berlin's decision to transfer tanks to Kyiv.

In particular, the Bundestag deputy from the Left Party and a member of the NATO Parliamentary Council Sevim Dagdelen stressed that the decision to give tanks to Ukraine is historically wrong.

According to the parliamentarian, instead of sending weapons to Ukraine, diplomacy is needed.

In addition, Bundestag deputy from the Alternative for Germany party, Petr Bystron, stated that Scholz, by his decision to supply Ukraine with tanks, “threw overboard” the foundation of the post-war period, on which Berlin relied in its policy.

In addition, the UN said that the current development of the situation around Ukraine does not lead to peace.

Stéphane Dujarric, Permanent Representative of the UN Secretary General, expressed this point of view when answering a question about the decision of a number of Western countries to supply tanks to Ukraine.

“What we want to see is peace, a just world in accordance with the UN Charter.

But what we see now does not lead us in this direction, ”TASS quotes Dujarric.

"Refusal of the FRG from the recognition of historical responsibility"

Commenting on the decisions of the German government, Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechaev said earlier that the conflict in Ukraine is moving to a new level.

According to him, the decision to transfer tanks contradicts the statements of German politicians about the unwillingness of the FRG to be drawn into the conflict.

Along with this, the diplomat noted that Berlin's actions indicate that Germany and its closest allies are not interested in a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis.

Instead, according to Nechaev, Berlin is demonstrating a willingness to escalate tensions.

In addition, the ambassador drew attention to the "refusal of the FRG from recognizing historical responsibility" to the peoples of Russia for the crimes of the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War.

In turn, the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said that the prospect of the presence of German tanks on Ukrainian soil is of great political importance for the Russians.

According to the diplomat, the memory of the Nazi aggression, which claimed millions of lives, is very fresh.
