After North Korean drones pierced our skies, the military borrowed UAV jamming equipment for nuclear power plant defense from Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power.

Even KHNP, which has been invaded by drones more than 100 times, has

never used this equipment, but the military plans to spend 6 billion won to buy such equipment, which is causing controversy over its effectiveness.

This is reporter Won Jong-jin's exclusive report.

is the equipment takeover certificate obtained by SBS between the military and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power.

On the 27th of last month, the day after the drone infiltration, it said that KHNP's radio jamming device jammer was rented for 'operational response to North Korean drone airspace intrusion'.

The 2nd Corps, 3rd Corps, and 5th Corps of the Army sent an official letter asking them to borrow equipment as soon as possible considering the urgency of the current situation, and KHNP loaned 4 jammers.

It was intended to be used during the alert period following the drone incident, but it was confirmed that KHNP had never used it after purchasing the equipment in November 2021.

The year following the introduction of the jammer, there were 139 cases in which private drones invaded the no-fly zone with a radius of 3.7km around the nuclear power plant, but there was no case of using the jammer to crash or deviate from the route.

The KHNP explained that it was because the drone had never crossed over into the nuclear power plant area, but the military hurriedly rented and saw a jammer that had no record of use.

[Lee In-young/Democratic Party member: I hurriedly borrowed 4 jamming guns from KHNP and pretended to respond, but since it is a weapon that has never been used, in some ways it is just a show of response.]

In particular, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration As we have set up a plan to purchase 90 sets of rifle-type jammers by spending 6 billion won, we need to carefully consider the effectiveness of the equipment in advance so that it will not become useless after the introduction of the equipment.
