Mona Al-Marri: The wise leadership's belief in the importance of the role of women behind the UAE's excellence and global leadership in the field of gender balance

 Mona Ghanem Al-Marri, Vice President of the Emirates Council for Gender Balance, confirmed that the wise leadership of the UAE, since its establishment, has attached utmost importance to the role of women in the comprehensive development process of the country, stressing that the country has made remarkable achievements in the field of gender balance in 2022 by advancing to the eleventh position in the world. It is the first in the Arab world in the gender balance index issued by the United Nations Development Program, advancing 38 global ranks within only 7 years of the establishment of the Emirates Council for Gender Balance in 2015, and for the second year in a row it came in first place at the level of the Middle East and North Africa region in the report on women and business activities and Law by the World Bank, and the Gender Gap Report by the World Economic Forum. 


This came during a gender balance session within the Dubai International Forum for Project Management, which is holding its eighth session this year, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai, until January 26 at the Jumeirah Hotel in Dubai. 


 Mona Al-Marri added, "The year 2022 witnessed the building of a qualitative partnership with the UAE private sector through the 'Pledge to Accelerate the Fifth Goal of the Sustainable Development Goals' initiative," noting that 56 national and international companies working in various fields inside and outside the country have joined this voluntary initiative aimed at Increasing the percentage of women’s representation in leadership positions to 30% by 2025, and working to achieve gender balance in this vital sector, which represents a major pillar in the progress and prosperity of the UAE,” stressing that some of these companies achieved rates of up to 27% ahead of schedule. Pointing out the importance of this undertaking, which represents the first initiative of its kind at the level of the global private sector, and reflects a unique partnership between the government and private sectors to achieve national goals.


The Vice-President of the Emirates Council for Gender Balance explained that the wise leadership has a great belief in the importance of the role of women, which gave them from the beginning equal opportunities with men at all levels and in various fields, and that this belief in the role of women stands behind the excellence of the UAE and its leadership at the international level in the field of Gender balance, noting that women currently represent about 27.5% of ministerial positions in the UAE government, and occupy 50% of the number of members of the Federal National Council. Representation and role in decision-making centers.


Mona Al-Marri stressed that the presence of Emirati women is not a formality, but rather an effective and influential presence, which is reflected in the qualitative achievements that she has achieved in various fields, including vital and future sectors, explaining that the Emirates Council for Gender Balance works in cooperation with all state agencies to implement the vision and directives of the wise leadership. In consolidating the country's global position and enhancing its competitiveness with global indicators and reports.


She praised the unlimited support and continuous motivation of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, "Mother of the Nation", for Emirati women educationally, professionally and socially, and strengthening their global presence. 


She said that thanks to the leadership of the wife of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the Emirates Council for Gender Balance, President of the Dubai Women's Foundation, for the file of gender balance, with its importance, And Her Highness' continuous directives to strengthen local and international partnerships to achieve the desired goals. Mona Al-Marri praised the cooperation of all state agencies and relevant ministries in reaching the advanced global rank of the state currently in the field of gender balance, referring in this regard to the advanced legislation and legislative improvements approved by the state during the past three years, which contributed to transforming gender balance into an institutional culture. Within the country and the UAE’s achievement of quantum leaps in global competitiveness indicators, as it ranked 49th in the world in the gender balance index in 2015, and advanced to 11th in the world in the latest version of this index in 2022, achieving the goal that His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum directed, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, before the appointed time.


She added: "In Davos, we signed memorandums of understanding with the World Economic Forum based on their belief in our ability to work to achieve gender balance, which represents a major engine in the progress and prosperity of the UAE. Last year, the Council established, in cooperation with the World Bank, a regional center for exchanging knowledge and providing advice to help countries region to bridge gender imbalance gaps.

Mona Al-Marri added, "Education is the basis of any civilized development. Today, for example, we find that 56% of engineering graduates are female. Investing in education since the early establishment of the state paved the way for women's participation in many fields today, such as real estate investments, entrepreneurship and many others. 


The Vice President of the Emirates Council for Gender Balance added: "We have more opportunities than others, in many countries, and the success of a woman is not limited to the fields of work, but it is also measured by her role as a mother who gives time to her family to be able to achieve the best in terms of education, identities and scientific activities.
