So far this year, there have been bombings on average every other day in Sweden - and outsiders continue to suffer in the gangs' bloody war.

For Masha, the violence has come too close.

In October 2021, perpetrators opened fire in the residential area in Farsta strand in Stockholm.

A 43-year-old father of two was shot dead and a 16-year-old boy on his way home from a football practice was seriously injured.

The police theory is that neither was the intended target.

The man who was killed was Masha's partner.

- He was in the wrong place.

Maybe he wanted to defend the boy, he was like that.

I don't understand how that can happen.

Why him?

Explosion in the stairwell

Two weeks ago, on January 5, Masha again became a victim of the gang war when an explosion occurred in the stairwell.

According to the police's suspicions, the target of both the 2021 shooting and the 2023 explosion was a man with gang connections that is written on the address.

Masha's life has changed completely after what she went through.

Now she has had enough and wants to move.

- I have lived in the apartment for 16 years, I enjoy it here.

But my family is afraid to come here.

We celebrated Christmas in two places, those who dared to come to me and those who didn't.

It tears the family apart.

No one convicted

No one has been convicted of the shooting death of Masha's partner.

For a period, a gang-connected man in his 20s was detained on suspicion of the crime, but he was released and the prosecutor dropped the preliminary investigation.

- It feels like sitting on a barrel of dynamite that can explode at any time.

Every time I come towards the house I look to see if there are any strange armed people.

At night, during the day.

I want to move away from here, says Masha.

Footnote: Masha is a fake name.
