The star CAC 40 index rose 52.11 points to 7,095.99 points, and exceeded 7,110 points during the session.

The day before, it had yielded 0.09%.

Full-year results are starting with a bang for the Parisian index, with Franco-Italian semiconductor maker STMicroelectronics surging more than 8% after better-than-expected performance and outlook.

After the close, luxury giant LVMH posted new record results in 2022 with sales of 79 billion euros and net profit of 14 billion euros.

Investors welcomed the 2.9% increase in US gross domestic product in the fourth quarter of 2022 at an annualized rate, a first estimate higher than expected by analysts.

Bénédicte Kukla, senior investment analyst at Indosuez Wealth Management, "expected a good surprise" regarding US growth, given that in the "fourth quarter US consumption was holding up rather well".

However, it anticipates "that a contraction in consumption will happen" in 2023, with, in the process, "an economic slowdown".

Green light for STMicroelectronics

The Franco-Italian semiconductor manufacturer jumped 8.19% to 42.68 euros after doubling its net profit in 2022, thanks in particular to the "strong demand" for chips in the automotive and industrial sectors, which pushes the group to invest in new factories.

Its forecast for the first quarter of 2023 is above analysts' expectations.

Since January 1, the action has soared by almost 30%.

Elior falls

The collective catering group Elior confirmed its objectives for 2022/2023 on Thursday, publishing an increase in turnover in the first quarter of its staggered financial year, still benefiting from a "Covid catch-up effect" and price increases.

But the action fell 14.41% to 3.30 euros, erasing the gains made since the start of the year.

Investors noted that their financial expectations did not materialize.

“The renegotiation of contracts takes longer,” also note analysts from Oddo BHF.

Sodexo fell 0.44% to 91.16 euros.

Danger in the home of Maisons du Monde

The distributor of furniture and objects Maisons du Monde (-5.74% to 11.67 euros) announced a 2022 turnover down 5.1% to 1.24 billion euros, as well as the appointment of a new managing director who comes from Carrefour.
