Six men were arrested and brought to the public prosecutor's office in Bobigny (Seine-Saint-Denis) on Monday.

They are suspected of being involved in a major cigarette traffic, based in Montreuil.

Aged 26 to 36, they reportedly managed to sell seven tonnes of tobacco in three months, reports

Le Parisien

.

The turnover is estimated at nearly one million euros.

Two of the suspects were tried in immediate appearance.

They were sentenced to 15 months and 19 months in prison as well as a customs fine of 230,000 euros.

The four other men have been imprisoned and will be tried on March 6.

They were supplied in Belgium

The investigation began last November.

The network was then monitored while clans clashed regularly to obtain the best sales pitches, generating violent brawls, even kidnappings.

Thanks to their surveillance, the police were able to identify a storage location in Epinay-sur-Seine, but also discovered that the smugglers were supplying themselves in Belgium.

During the arrests, the police got their hands on 70 boxes of cigarettes and 10,000 euros at the homes of the criminals.
