It seems that Western countries' tanks will soon be deployed in the war in Ukraine.

It is said that the US and Germany have decided to support their main battle tanks, and it is noteworthy how it will affect the war.

Reporter Moon Jun-mo reports.

Bakhmut, the largest battlefield in eastern Ukraine.

Ukrainian troops fire antiquated mortars against heavy Russian tanks.

[Ukrainian Soldier: Everyone talks about tanks, tanks, tanks.

The most powerful weapon on the battlefield right now is, of course, the tank.]

The Ukrainian army also has hundreds of Soviet-made tanks, but their performance is poor and parts are scarce, making them almost useless.

Ukraine has been appealing that it needs 300 Western main battle tanks to counter Russia.

In particular, in the case of the German-made Leopard 2 tank, about 2,000 units are in operation in Europe, enabling rapid deployment and simple operation, so Ukraine has preferred it the most.

Germany, on the other hand, has been reluctant to support tanks for fear of escalating the war with Russia.

Then, the United States decided to support its main tank, the Abrams, and Germany followed suit and announced that it would support Ukraine's Leopard 2 tank.

[Boris Pistorius/German Defense Minister: We clearly told countries that have 'Leopard' that they can start tank operation training for Ukrainian troops.]

Russia defined Western tank support as a "blatant provocation."

However, I expected that there would be no significant variable.

However, there is even a prospect that if a western main battle tank with good maneuverability is deployed in the plains of eastern Ukraine, it could change the battlefield.
