Sacristan killed and priest injured in stabbing attack in Spain

The attack perpetrated in Algeciras left one dead, a sexton, and several injured, including a priest.

The attack, perpetrated this Wednesday evening in a church in Algeciras, in the south of the country, left one dead and several injured.

A suspect was arrested and an investigation for "presumed acts of terrorism" was opened.

The attack occurred shortly before 8 p.m. in the church of San Isidro in Algeciras.

She killed one: the sexton of another church located a few minutes walk from this one and in which the assailant had also entered, said the Ministry of the Interior.

Other people were also injured, including a seriously injured priest.

A video released by the authorities shows the assailant from behind, black pants and a black and white gray hoodie.

Handcuffed, he walks in socks in a corridor, framed by two police officers.

The last attacks in Spain date back to August 2017, when two attacks by a jihadist cell left 16 dead and 140 injured on the Ramblas avenue in Barcelona and in the seaside resort of Cambrils.

They had been claimed by the Islamic State organization.

The three survivors of this cell had been sentenced to terms of eight, 46 and 53 years in prison.
