In just five years, the influx of cocaine has increased drastically in Norrbotten, as the county's area and narcotics police testify.

Money and status are some of the reasons.

- It may have to do with the fact that cocaine is expensive and is seen as a status drug.

Those who sell the cocaine need to handle less while getting more money, says the narcotics police, who wishes to remain anonymous.

Minors take cocaine

In the past, amphetamine was a common party drug in Norrbotten, but it has been replaced by cocaine.

The area police in Luleå and Boden see a worrying development as the drug has also taken hold among minors.

- What we see is that as young as 13-year-olds try cocaine.

We didn't see that when I started as a police officer a few years ago, says area police officer Martina Renholm.

Influenced during school time

How did you discover it?

- It is parents who have contacted us, but also teachers and principals when they have suspected that someone has been influenced during school hours.

How widespread is it among minors in particular?

- The number of blackouts is large and we only get a portion.

Social services see even more because they are responsible for minors, says Renholm.

This is how minors get hold of the drug

The local police are now appealing to the public for attention - not least from parents.

- We want to get the parents to look up.

It's important to keep an eye on your teenagers because it's a tough age and a lot happens, says Martina Renholm.

In the video, the area police tell how they think minors get hold of the expensive drug.
