An armed young man committed suicide after killing 3 people in Washington

A young man committed suicide by shooting himself after killing three people, yesterday, in Washington state, in an incident that the US police described as a random assault.

This horrific crime comes in the wake of two similar mass shootings in California that have left 18 people dead since Saturday.

Police in Yakima, near Seattle, reported that a 21-year-old named Jared Haddock shot people in and around a convenience store at night before fleeing.

Matt Murray, chief of police in the city, said that investigators do not know until now the motives of the attacker, noting that the shooting left three dead.

According to Murray, the shooting happened suddenly and without warning, as "there was no apparent conflict between the people" who were in the place.

CCTV footage from the store showed that "the man entered and was just shooting," according to the police chief.

Murray added that the gunman "then walked out of the store, shot one of the victims, then crossed the street and apparently shot another person," before stealing a car and fleeing in it.

Hours later, police received an emergency call from a woman who said the wanted gunman had borrowed her phone.

Murray revealed to reporters that the gunman "called his mother and made several statements condemning him, including I killed these people," adding that he had stated during his conversation with her that he "will kill himself after that."

And when the police arrived at the scene of the shooting near the store, gunshots were heard, as it was found that the young man committed suicide and died despite attempts to help him.

The Yakima shooting is the latest wave of gun violence to rock the United States.

In California, a man targeted a group of Asians, killing seven people on Monday at two agricultural sites, after a first incident that killed 11 people last weekend in a banquet hall, whose motive is not yet clear.
