They had occupied the former Notre-Dame-Bon-Conseil college in Nantes for nearly two years.

In July 2021, they had been dislodged by the police, before reinvesting the premises a few months later.

It was on this December day that several arrests took place in what they had renamed "the People's House".

On Tuesday, five activists were tried before the correctional court of Nantes (Loire-Atlantique) for "occupation of the land of others with a view to establishing their home there".

All were released, after barely five minutes to deliberate, reports

The huge abandoned buildings had been "requisitioned" by various collectives to house people on the street.

Twelve people were arrested and taken into custody.

Some, like the left-wing candidate in the municipal elections Margot Medkour, had received a reminder to the law, which they had refused.

Only five had been summoned to court.

They come out without condemnation.
