The

Court of Valencia

has sentenced

Marcos Benavent

, the 'junkie' of money, to seven years in prison for the crimes of prevarication, embezzlement, false official document, money laundering and false commercial document, but acquits the

Popular Party

and the former Vice President of the Provincial Council and former Mayor of Moncada,

Juan José Medina

, for having received part of those bribes to finance the municipal electoral campaigns of Moncada and Vilamarxant and the contribution of the provincial PP to the 2008 general election campaign.

This is the first conviction in the Imelsa case, which judged the contracts that the Thematica Events company, behind which Benavent was through a front man, made with the Valencia City Council and the Valencia Provincial Council in 2008, 2009 and 2011 to change of alleged bites.

This sentence, in addition to the first sentence for Benavent, has implications for the rest of the case, since it validates the recordings that gave rise to the process and that the accused acknowledged in his statement before the judge to have manipulated.

His defense questioned the custody of the audios, an argument that was repeated by the defense of

Alfonso Rus

.

These audios are also key in the Erial case that keeps the former president of the Generalitat,

Eduardo Zaplana

, under investigation .
