According to the journalist, the beginning of the anti-Russian narrative was laid by the story of alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.

As Arta Moeni, head of research at the Institute for Peace and Diplomacy, pointed out, the demonization of Russia was aimed at creating an overblown threat that was supposed to help contain Moscow at the international level.

Vlahos concluded that such an anti-Russian narrative could lead to "outright war with a nuclear power."

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that almost a real war is being waged between Russia and the West.
