Haavisto: Finland and Sweden talks with Turkey on NATO membership need to pause

“Negotiations must be paused,” Turkish NTV quoted Haavisto as saying.

According to him, it is better to return to this issue after "the atmosphere calms down."

Finland and Sweden submitted a joint application for NATO membership in May 2022, which has been ratified by 28 out of 30 countries, with the exception of Hungary and Turkey.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Sweden should not wait for favors from Turkey on the issue of NATO membership after the actions of supporters of terrorism and enemies of Muslims that took place in Stockholm.
