The companion of the woman found dead on Sunday in an apartment in Pont-Péan near Rennes has been indicted for intentional homicide by spouse and placed in pre-trial detention, we learned on Tuesday from the Rennes prosecutor's office.

He faces life imprisonment for these facts.

Born in 1987, the defendant presented himself to the Rennes police station "to report that he had found his deceased wife at his home", Philippe Astruc, public prosecutor of Rennes, said on Sunday.

The woman strangled with an extension cord

In police custody, he admitted the next day to be the cause of death, stating that he had strangled his companion with an extension cord found at the couple's home.

Before the investigators, however, he did not explain "truly his gesture", simply evoking "a dispute", according to the Rennes prosecutor's office.



The couple had met in 2014 and married in 2017. He worked as a permanent mason in his brother's company, while the wife was unemployed.

A separation, at the initiative of the forties, had taken place in November 2021 before the couple resumed contact in early 2023. According to the magistrate, the husband had been hospitalized in a specialized environment following a suicide attempt in February 2022.
