Virginie Girod SEASON 2022 - 202305h00, January 23, 2023

Listen to the story of the Roman Emperor Nero, told by historian Virginie Girod, in an unpublished story in two episodes.

The name of the Roman Emperor Nero is very well known because of peplums and comics.

It evokes tyranny, excess and, worst of all, matricide.

But on closer inspection, things are more nuanced than that.

Nero was indeed a spoiled child made to rule by an all-powerful mother.

But he was also an artist who had an aesthetic vision of power.

This taste for excess made him look like a tyrant in the eyes of the Romans who ended up making him pay for his excesses.

This story is a Europe 1 Studio production.

Topics covered: Rome - Roman Empire - Nero - Antiquity - Minerva - Agrippina - Caligula - Britannicus
