Russia's state news agency TASS said on Monday that a Russian warship armed with new-generation hypersonic missiles will take part in joint exercises with the navies of China and South Africa in February.

The agency quoted a military-diplomatic source as saying that the frigate "Admiral Gorshkov" - which carries Tsirkon missiles - will conduct naval maneuvers with the participation of ships from South Africa, Russia and China, from 17 to 27 February.

The Zircon is a new generation of hypersonic missiles that exceeds the speed of sound by 9 times, and has a range of more than 1,000 km.

For its part, the South African National Defense Forces said that the exercises will take place within 10 days in the coastal city of Durban and Richards Bay, which are separated by 87 nautical miles (161 km), with the aim of exchanging operational skills and knowledge, in addition to strengthening relations between the three countries.

The frigate "Gorshkov" conducted exercises in the Norwegian Sea this month, after Russian President Vladimir Putin sent it to the Atlantic;

In a sign to the West that Russia will not back down from the war in Ukraine.
