In China, local media such as the Global Times reported that two people were killed and seven people were missing after being swept away by a river that suddenly swelled in the lower reaches of the Sanmensha Dam in Henan Province yesterday (22nd) during the Spring Festival.

At around 4:10 am yesterday, the river suddenly swelled and tourists were isolated or washed away. Local rescuers who were dispatched after receiving a report rescued 10 drowning people, but 2 of them died after being transported to the hospital, and 7 are missing.

The place where the accident occurred is located 1-2km downstream of Sanmensha Dam, the second largest in the Yellow River, and is a popular tourist destination called 'Sanmensha's Maldives' for its outstanding scenery of shallow waters and sandy beaches.

It was forbidden to enter the river due to severe changes in water depth, but local media reported that people who came to play during the Lunar New Year went in and were changed.

Local authorities are searching for the missing persons and investigating the circumstances of the accident.
