The presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey were supposed to be held on June 18, but will instead be held on May 14.

President Erdogan announced this during a meeting with voters late on Saturday, according to the Reuters news agency.

On Sunday, the president's staff released video clips of Erdogan making the announcement.

Erdogan has previously hinted at bringing the election forward, and recently information has circulated that the election could be moved due to religious holidays and school exams.
