White House chief of staff Ron Klein intends to leave his post after two years in this central and sensitive job, in the most significant resignation witnessed by US President Joe Biden's administration since he took office two years ago.

According to the New York Times, Klain “has confided to colleagues since the November midterms that after a grueling, drawn-out stint with Biden going back into the 2020 campaign, he is ready to move on,” and has been searching for a replacement since then.

The New York Times said, Ron Klein's expected resignation coincided with the investigation into secret documents found in places belonging to US President Joe Biden.

Klein is one of the president's closest collaborators and may leave office after Joe Biden's annual State of the Union address scheduled for February 7, according to the newspaper.

Klein will step down at a sensitive time for the presidential term.

In the coming weeks, the 80-year-old 46th President of the United States may announce his official candidacy for the presidency in 2024, while his great Republican rival Donald Trump, 76, has already announced his intention to run.

It is not yet clear whether a successor has already been chosen.
