THE ESSENTIAL

  • No decision was made in Ramstein, Germany at a meeting in Western allies, on the delivery of heavy tanks to Ukraine.

Berlin is procrastinating, but the Ukrainian Minister of Defense assures that the discussions will continue.

  • The United States has designated the Russian paramilitary group Wagner as an international criminal organization, the White House announced on Friday, denouncing its activities in Ukraine.

The Wagner group fought there alongside the regular Russian army, notably at Soledar and Bakhmout.

  • Ukrainian security services have announced that they have arrested seven "Russian agents" in Dnipro, who may be involved in the attack on an apartment building that killed at least 45 people on January 14.

08:45: HIV-positive Ukrainian refugees find help in Estonia

Fleeing her war-torn Ukraine and then seeking refuge in Estonia, Svitlana not only had to deal with all the usual challenges of a refugee, but also worry about her HIV treatment.

This 45-year-old woman, whose husband unknowingly infected her when they met, has managed to control her disease for years thanks to medication.

Now, in a new place, she had to secure a new source of supply.

Fortunately, at the refugee centre, she found information about the Estonian Network of People Living with HIV (EHPV), an NGO offering them assistance.

“I called a volunteer and told him about my problem (…) A few days later, they got me an appointment with the doctor and accompanied me there,” she recalls.

“Right now (…) I feel good, the test results are really good (…) My immunity is good and the viral load is zero,” says Svitlana.

Estonia has one of the highest HIV transmission rates in Europe, but the situation has improved dramatically since the turn of the 21st century.

Turkey announced on Saturday that it had canceled a planned visit by the Swedish Minister of Defense, after the authorization granted for the holding of an anti-Turkish demonstration in Stockholm.

The aim of this visit was to try to remove Ankara's objections to Sweden's entry into NATO.

While the fighting seems to be getting tougher again in the south of the country, particularly around Zaporozhye, Germany is still blocking the shipment of Leopard 2 tanks to kyiv.

The news of the day could well come from Sweden, where a minister must go to Turkey to continue discussions on the entry of the Scandinavian country into NATO.
