The flags of both the International Ski Federation (FIS) and the International Biathlon Union (IBU) fly over the ski stadium in Östersund.

And it has become possible because the Para Sports - which were previously classified under the International Paralympic Committee - now belong to the respective confederation's organizations.

- We believe that through this change we can develop the sport and get more participants, says Olle Dahlin, who is on site in Östersund and is president of the International Biathlon Union, IBU.

More people are attracted

Even Bo Sköld, who is general secretary of Parasport Sweden, sees many advantages with the new organization.

Not least the new recruitment.

- The attention becomes greater and then more people can be attracted to the sport and themselves start to dream of maybe taking up sports and maybe one day standing up there on the podium.

For the municipality of Östersund, the Para WC is the culmination of a long investment to become one of the leading winter sports venues in the world for para sports.
