Previous studies have shown that almost all women want to breastfeed, says Eva-Lotta Funkquist, senior lecturer for women's and children's health at Uppsala University.

- But for most mothers it is difficult to navigate around the recommendations that exist in Swedish child care, she says.

Want to clarify the recommendations

Of all children in Sweden, only 10 percent are breastfed fully until six months of age.

Instead, so-called taste tests - small portions of other food - are introduced early, which ends breastfeeding earlier.

Something that she believes may be due to the fact that since 2011, the Swedish Food Agency has advised parents to introduce small taste samples to babies from the age of four months.

Something the researchers behind the study hope to change.
