- We do something every Genealogy Day, says Kerstin Nilsson from Strängnäsbygden's genealogy association, which was behind the event.

During the day, visitors could try searching for their family names in various digital archives and church records.

Those who wanted could also browse the author Per Andersson's extensive mapping of all of Gustav Vasa's descendants.

- I happen to be one of the two percent of Sweden's population that is included there.

And I'm not exactly alone in Strängnäs, but we are a few hundred Strängnäs residents who are also Vasa descendants, says Lennart Nilsson who participated during the day.

This year marks five hundred years since Gustav Vasa was elected king in Strängnäs.

An anniversary that, in addition to Genealogy Day, was also celebrated on Saturday with a new exhibition about Vasa's path to the throne at the cultural center.
