- It is a very serious situation.

Right now, the order intake is very low, so there will be a halt for the housing industry ahead of the summer, says Stefan Gustafsson (KD), chairman of the municipal council in Sävsjö and coordinator of the wooden house network in Jönköping County.

Appealing for help

On site in Eksjö on Friday were several of the county's wooden house industries, members of parliament, representatives from Region Jönköping County and all the municipal board chairmen in the Highland municipalities for a conversation about the tough situation on the housing market.

- It is probably much tougher than many can imagine, says Frida Scherdén, CEO of Eksjöhus, and adds that they have not yet had to lay off staff but that it could become a reality if it continues as it is now.

"Worse than many people think"

On site today was the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing who was looking forward to a constructive conversation:

- I want to hear what challenges the wooden house industry has in this region.

We know that there is a declining economy and here a broad list of measures is required which I want to discuss with the industry, says Andreas Carlson (KD), Minister of Infrastructure and Housing.

Stefan Gustafsson says that he is most worried that the wooden house manufacturers in the county will have to lay off staff and that in the long run this will lead to the industry losing skills that they will later need when things turn around and there is a boom instead.
